A reminder that Friday, October 28 is a non-instruction day with no school for all students.

With Halloween coming up, students are invited to wear costumes to school on Monday, October 31.  The costumes must be worn the whole day and must be appropriate for school environment meaning no violent or inappropriate content or messaging. Accessories such as swords, guns, knives, weapons etc. should not be brought to school.  As costumes should not impede learning, we ask that no mask even if it’s a half face mask be worn to school.  Those wanting to wear COVID masks are welcome to. Due to dietary restrictions and preferences, no food should be brought to school for sharing purposes.  While well intended, other non-food treats should also be not brought to school (goodie/loot bags).

School photos retakes were originally scheduled to happen on October 17 & 18 have been rescheduled to November 2 & 3.  If you would like your child to have photo retakes, please email your child's teacher to let them know. Class Photos will also happen on the November 2 for all classes with the exception of the Tuesday/Thursday Kindergarten group whose class photo will be taken on November 3.

Dalhousie students will have the opportunity to participate in a 6-day dance residency at school. Sound Kreations will be coming to dance with the students on November 14, 15, 16, 17, 21, and 22. Our students will be participating in a program called CubaNYC where a Spanish speaking instructor will focus on teaching the students hip hop and Latin street dance moves. The cost of this residency will be $7.26 per student which can be paid through your MYCBE account.  This fee is in the process of being posted and you should see it in the next couple of weeks. We are excited to get our groove on, ask your child to see the moves they learned at school.

ELAL:

We are working on adjectives and adding details to our writing... we have been writing about our swimming this week and trying to stretch our sentences by adding adjectives and the 5 W's.

Daily 5- we are working on the long O words, such as "home, coat, toe, goat, float, close, dome" and reading with a partner or by ourselves. We read and listen to books on Epic. This week we got our RazKids log in so we will use that at school and it can be used at home.

We are working on reading syllables (ta, te, ti, to tu, ma, me, mi, mo, mu) and reading books in Spanish. We have read books as a class and are practicing reading Spanish books to a partner. Students should be taking a Spanish book home from the library to read at home as well. They can also read and listen to Spanish books on RazKids, now that they have their log in cards.

Math:

We are reviewing addition strategies (+0, +1, +2, tens partners, doubles, doubles plus one) to add within 20.

We are building numbers with base ten blocks (tens, ones) working our way up to three digit numbers and including the 100's place.

We continue to practice skip counting by 2, 5, 10 to solidify our understanding.

Science- we have finished our magnet projects.

Social studies- we are understanding a compass (north, east, south and west) and using it to design and read maps.

Our first day of Swimming is Monday Oct 17. Remember that our bus leaves the school at 9:05, so do not be late. Try to come to school with your swimsuit under your clothes and I suggest bringing a separate bag for swimming things so you can put you wet towel in it after swimming, and not in your backpack. Remember to bring a towel, clothing and extra snacks, as students will be extra hungry most likely. For long hair, please braid or tie back as we will not have time to brush it out after swimming.
